Danger Man / The Prisoner

Danger Man, known as Secret Agent in the USA, was one of best spy tv series, with good script-wrting and superb acting by Patrick McGoohan. The character can easily be compared in quality to Bond.

In a later series starring Patrick McGoohan called The Prisoner, his same character resigns but is then relegated to an island village where everyone has a number. In a time before conspiracy theories were injected in the public for profits and embraced by politicians shows like this were counterculture and also pop culture, like the Beatles were. The Prisoner has been a cult classic, and I think the best series of all time.

Another series that is also completely along these lines, but in a different fashion, is Utopia (UK). A series about a comic book that might tell about the end of the world. Although people nowadays would take the notion of the plot a whole different direction, the plot revolves around giving a fake vaccine to the population for ulterior motives. Kind of like The Prisoner, it gets harder to enjoy these stories for what they were, when they were made they presupposed you knew such things were unlikely to ever happen so you could enjoy the story. But still, if you could look past those things into the artwork and storytelling, it’s an amazing tv series.
