Phantasie

This series of games is recommended by The CRPG Book as a great introduction game to 1980s RPGs. It’s kind of a lost series, even though the author of the series, known as Lord Wood, was once compared to Lord British, the author of the Ultima series. You can’t really buy Phantasie on any digital platforms, and even if you did you might have to buy and play the bad DOS graphics version rather than the better C64 and Atari ST versions. The series is worth it, if you can find it. I recommend the C64 or Atari ST versions. That’s because of the better graphics, AND the fact that you can play the whole series of three games with importing your old characters from one game to the next. For C64 emulator, VICE is the best emulator, and for Atari ST emulator, I recommend Hatari.

Below you can play Phantasie I for free, from Internet Archive. Note: It take a while to load, as C64 games did back then, and it has multiple disks. Press Alt-8 to change between disks. After pressing Alt-8, you pick which d64 file to change in the virtual floppy drive.
