Douglas Adams, Spider Robinson, Terry Pratchett

Douglas Adams wrote Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which is both a book on the 1o01 Books You Must Read Before You Die and a video game on the 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die. He wrote many other books. I remember reading Dirk Gentley’s Holistic Detective Agency as a kid, given to me as a present. I don’t remember if I got the jokes or not however. Maybe I couldn’t understand the satire.

If you frequent places that talk of out-of-print video games that have never been published again, you might have heard of Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon. Spider Robinson was a great writer with many books. Unfortunately people might have forgotten him as a sci-fi writer. This game is pretty intriguing.

Terry Pratchett was the creator of the entire Discworld universe. There is an adventure game that was notoriously hard to figure out without getting hints.

I guess a long time ago, such as the 80s and 90s, there was more optimism about the future and people were able to understand satire for the promising technology around them. Nowadays people appreciate dystopian sci-fi since it appears so often in front of us.
