One of the first edutainment games, this game was supposed to teach history while letting children play video games on the new technology of computer, Apple ][ computers provided to the schools. This game was listed in the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die. The 1985 Apple ][ version is recommended by the book, as the most iconic one remembered by the most people. There were 5 Oregon Trail versions for PC, and a 2021 version of the game recently came out.
I recommend using AppleWin emulator. AppleWin can be run on Linux using PlayOnLinux. As of this writing, RetroAchievements still doesn’t have achievements for this game, despite much interest in it.
